Emily Blunt Had A Crazy Suggestion For Filming A Quiet Places Most Intense Scene

Emily Blunt Had A Crazy Suggestion For Filming A Quiet Places Most Intense Scene

Warning: spoilers ahead for John Krasinski's A Quiet Place! Read ahead at your own risk!

With near-universal critical and audience acclaim, it looks like A Quiet Place has made a serious impression on viewers. The gut-wrenchingly tense thriller has finally landed in theaters, and many fans have started talking about some of the film's most intense sequences. One scene that stands out is the birth scene in which the mother (Emily Blunt) has to go through labor while hiding in a bath tub from one of the terrifying monsters. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Blunt explained that the scene was particularly brutal because she had the wild idea to shoot the whole thing in order over the course of a single week. Blunt told us:

The giving birth sequence was pretty brutal. It was just really intense, and kind of exhausting at times. We shot it over the course of a week, and I asked John to schedule it. He was like, 'Are you going to be exhausted? Do you want to break it up in the schedule or do you want to shoot it all in one go?' So, I just maybe stupidly said 'Let's just shoot it all in one go because then you can get a real sense of the progression of the birth and the throughline of that so that really played out in real time.' So we shot it actually in sequence. The whole thing.

For the sake of logistics and convenience, movies often don't shoot their scenes chronologically. That said, when it came time to shoot the nail-biter birth scene for A Quiet Place, Emily Blunt ultimately agreed to film the sequence in order over the course of a single week. The decision was made to track the mother's struggle from beginning to end in an authentic way, but as an unintended side effect, the sequence also ended up proving to be one of the most "brutal" and taxing elements of the entire shoot.

To achieve that level of intensity, it probably also helps that Emily Blunt felt a very important connection to her character while filming A Quiet Place. In fact, elsewhere in her interview with CinemaBlend, Blunt made a point to note that fact that portraying this mother stood out as one of the most deeply-personal performances of her career, as well as the fact that she related to the struggle of these parents in a more natural way than she did with films like Sicario or The Girl on the Train. After all, Emily Blunt is a mother herself, so the struggle experienced by this fictional mother felt real and palpable to her -- albeit in a far more heightened way.

John Krasinski's A Quiet Place is now in theaters, so make sure to check it out and see Emily Blunt's intense birth scene for yourself. For those of you who are looking for more information about the thriller, make sure to check out CinemaBlend's full review and stay tuned for more up-to-date coverage as it rounds out its winning weekend box office run.

This Rotten Week: Predicting The Predator, White Boy Rick A Simple Favor, And More Reviews

This Rotten Week: Predicting The Predator, White Boy Rick A Simple Favor, And More Reviews

After a slower couple of weeks with new releases, the fall movie season really gets underway with some interesting flicks hitting the big screen this Friday. We've got the return of some famous aliens, the story of a young FBI informant, a strange disappearance, and a spiritual sequel. Get ready for The Predator, A Simple Favor, Unbroken: Path to Redemption and White Boy Rick.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

I'll give this Predator species credit: no matter how many times they come to Earth with nefarious intentions and fail at the hands of some determined humans, the dreadlocked dudes just keep coming back for more. You really have to admire their tenacity, even if their results leave a lot to be desired. In this one, they enter a small town and a group of mercenaries are tasked with protecting the suburbs.

Shane Black is at the helm of fourth Predator movie after directing The Nice Guys (92%), Iron Man 3 (79%) and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (85%). Early opinions of his latest are generally positive with the Tomatometer sitting at 64% through 24 reviews. Some appreciate its attempt at tongue-in-cheek one-liners and over-the-top action, while others didn't really get fully into the spectacle. I suspect that means we keep seeing the score drop over the course of the week, but not to any great degree.

When I was 14 my primary issues were how to eradicate a tremendous amount of zits and avoid the attention of seniors who had little issue making life hell for underclassmen. It was a far cry from Richard Wersche's onset of teenage years featured in White Boy Rick when he first started a hustle selling guns, moved into heavy drugs, and became the youngest ever FBI informant.

White Boy Rick stars Richie Merrit as the titular character and Matthew McCounaghy as his father who gets caught up in all of the nonsense as well. Director Yann Demange has one other movie under his belt, 71 (95%). It doesn't look like his latest will finish anywhere close to his first work. Through 12 reviews it's sitting at 50% with critics generally enjoying the performances of the leads without caring all that much for a jumbled story. I suspect we see the score drop even more over the course of the week as it moves further out of Fresh range.

In A Simple Favor, a flick that seems to have a very Gone Girl feel to it, Anna Kendrick is a small-time blogger who's able to work her way into a friendship with a mysterious (and apparently rather wealthy) character - played by Blake Lively - who promptly disappears. The rest of the flick looks like one of those mind-fuck style whodunnits in which you don't even know if the missing person is playing some kind of scheme or there's really some bad stuff that went down.

Director Paul Fieg is generally known for his comedic work with films like Ghostbusters (74%), Spy (94%), The Heat (65%) and Bridesmaids (90%). This time he's exploring a much darker kind of film. It looks intriguing, and Kendrick appears to play a very different role than we're used to seeing. I suspect critics latch on to the style and performances and keep A Simple Favor afloat with a Fresh score.

Back in 2014 director Angelina Jolie brought us the film Unbroken, telling the story of runner-turned-solider-turned-POW Louis Zamperini in an amazing and harrowing story of perseverance. But while the movie ended with Louis returning home after being freed from the Japanese POW camp, the book the movie was based on, written by author Laura Hillenbrand, also describes his experience when he first came home. That's where Unbroken: Path to Redemption picks up.

Of course, it should be noted that this release is a completely different feature than its predecessor, as it features a heavy Christian bent - with much of the focus being on Zamperini dealing with inner demons and ultimately finding religion. The fact that this is directed by Harold Cronk, who also helmed God's Not Dead _and _God's Not Dead 2 (14% and 8%, respectively) has me with low hopes for the critical reception. It will for sure appeal to its direct target audience, but I can't imagine many other folks latch on.

Oh baby, did I ever blow it last week. Two movies were released and both were so, so, so far off from the predictions. Peppermint (Predicted: 52% Actual: 13%) turned into an unmitigated disaster. I should have seen this coming considering the timing of release. Movies coming out leading into Labor Day weekend tend to be ones studios are looking to unload rather quietly while folks enjoy the last couple days of summer. Critics panned the hell out of Jennifer Garner's vigilante turn. I don't see a franchise coming here.

Meanwhile, The Nun (Predicted: 59% Actual: 28%) suffered a similar fate with critics being not too happy with the fifth installment of The Conjuring franchise. The general consensus was there were some scares but the plot was meandering at best, nonexistent at worst. It was another release that I shouldn't have been so bullish on projecting.

Next time around we've got Fahrenheit 11/9, The House With A Clocks In Its Walls and Life Itself. It's gonna be a Rotten Week!

No, Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay Arent Doing A ThunderCats Movie

No, Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay Arent Doing A ThunderCats Movie

Yesterday we heard one of the most bizarre film rumors in recent memory. It claimed that the new Netflix movie currently being directed by Michael Bay and starring Ryan Reynolds, Six Underground, was actually a Thundercats movie that was filming in secret. It seemed far too crazy to be real, and now we know that it actually was. Rhett Reese, who co-wrote Six Underground with his Deadpool collaborator Paul Wernick, took to Twitter to respond to this odd rumor with a single word which clears things up.

So that pretty much spells it out. It's not exactly shocking that this rumor turned out to be false. It seemed crazy from the start. Of course, that certainly leads one to ask how the heck such an off the wall rumor got started. While an anonymous source was cited for the original rumor, IGN Middle East, called the source "reliable." Since it turns out the information was maybe not so reliable, what happened? Oftentimes when rumors turn out to be untrue they are still based on something real, so does that mean there really is a Thundercats movie in development, or about to start filming? Maybe something really is happening, but not with Michael Bay or Six Underground. Maybe Six Underground really is a cover for an entirely different movie, but just not Thundercats. Or maybe the "reliable" source got fed some really bad info just to see if it ended up online.

I wonder if that latter scenario might be the correct one. It wouldn't be the first time that somebody fed bad information to somebody they thought was a leak in order to confirm the suspicion. When the news ends up online you know who provided it and you don't lose out on anything since it was all bogus. Whoever provided the info to the source would also potentially be in a good position to make it seem real even though it was not. If that's the case, this reliable source may not be around much longer.

Still, as wild as this whole thing sounded, there are almost certainly a lot of people who will be disappointed to learn that none of it is real. The Thundercats are a property that still has a devoted fan base, one that is passionate enough to get bent out of shape when animation styles change drastically for entirely new versions of the cartoon.

On the plus side, Six Underground sounds like a solid movie in its own right, so hopefully, we can all enjoy the movie we're getting and not worry about the one that will likely never happen.
