Unused Avengers: Endgame Photo Gives Pepper And Tony An Epic Moment

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame debuted in theaters over a month ago, and has amassed a giant sum of money in the process. The Russo Brothers crafted a complicated narrative that was built on the previous 21 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plenty of major payoffs were included, especially in the epic final battle sequence in the ruins of the Avengers facility.

The final battle allowed Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts to become a bonafide superhero, taking on the mantle of Rescue after suiting up in armor that Tony custom made for her. It was an epic moment, and she even personally blasted Thanos alongside Wasp and Shuri. And now an unused promotional image has surfaced, which puts Rescue and Iron Man together. Check it out below.

I'm not crying, you're crying. Pepper Potts and Tony Stark are one of the true love stories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made the ending of Endgame all the more tragic. Gwyneth Paltrow's character encouraged her husband's superheroic ventures throughout the blockbuster, and was left mourning after the battle against Thanos was finally won.

This image comes to us from Marvel Studios artist Liz Georgoff, who stepped into Rescue's armor for a promo shot. Gwyneth Paltrow was presumably only on set for a limited time, so she wasn't going to be available for images that might have never seen the light of day. Georgoff has been involved in the MCU since Iron Man 3, so this moment must have been an exciting one.

Marvel fans had been waiting for Pepper to suit up as Rescue since the Marvel Cinematic Universe's inception. She's become the heroic superhero a few times throughout her tenure on the page, so it seemed like only a matter of time before Rescue finally took flight. But the wait ultimately lasted a decade, as she didn't get the iconic blue armor until Endgame arrived in theaters.

Those eagle-eyed fans might have seen this coming during Avengers: Endgame, as Morgan Stark made her debut wearing the helmet Tony created for her mother. And while Pepper stayed out of the Time Heist sequence, she joined the battlefield alongside most of the MCU's characters after Hulk snapped everyone back to life.

Rescue and Iron Man never met on the battlefield in an embrace like the above image, but they had some seriously epic shots together during Avengers: Endgame's epic last battle. They fought Thanos' forces back to back, and Pepper Potts used the suit's abilities in a variety of ways throughout that epic sequence.

Pepper was still in the Rescue armor when Tony managed to swipe the Infinity Stones from Thanos, and snap the Mad Titan and his forces out of existence. Iron Man saved the entire galaxy in that moment, and sacrificed his life for the one chance to defeat Thanos once and for all. Her armored hand was over his heart as the light on the Iron Man suit went out, signaling that Tony's body had succumbed to the radiation and trauma of the stones.

Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts has the distinction of being one of the very first characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was a love interest and business associate of Tony's in the original Iron Man, and moviegoers were able to watch as their relationship developed over the years. Although after starring in the Iron Man trilogy and the first Avengers movie, Paltrow started stepping back from her signature Marvel role.

That eventually changed as we got deeper into Phase Three, with Gwyneth Paltrow returning for some cameos in the final installments of the current slate of films. Pepper made a brief role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, revealing that she and Tony had patched things up and were back together following an unseen breakup prior to Captain America: Civil War.

Pepper also had a brief scene in Avengers: Infinity War, shown jogging with Tony in Central Park before Doctor Strange appeared to whisk of the hero to the Sanctum Sanctorum. It was unclear if Ms. Potts had survived Thanos' snap, until character posters for Endgame confirmed she had made it out without being dusted.

Her role was eventually expanded in Avengers: Endgame, first popping up at the Avengers facility when Captain Marvel towed The Benatar (complete with Tony and Nebula) to Earth. And when the time jump happened, it was revealed that the couple got married and had a daughter named Morgan.

It should be interesting to see how the legacy of Pepper Potts continues on through Phase Four, and if there's any possibility for Gwyneth Paltrow to return to her role in the future. The 46 year-old actress has stated that she'd be open to more small roles in the future if the studio needed it. And although Tony Stark's fate is sealed, the fandom will no doubt be curious to how she and Morgan are getting on in the wake of his death.

It's currently unclear if the Iron Man franchise would continue. While Steve Rogers passed on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, no one has take on the role of Iron Man. Spider-Man: Far From Home looks like it'll address that issue, as Peter Parker is rocking the Iron Spider suit during its first trailer.

Morgan also seems like a prime candidate to be the next Iron Man, especially if there's another time jump that can move her aging process forward. If Morgan ever ends up returning to the MCU, it would be logical that her mother might as well. But as of now, there's no telling what Marvel Studios is planning for the shared universe beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Regardless, fans will be happy to have seen Tony and Pepper get their happy ending. They were extremely lucky in the wake of Thanos' snap, and lived a happy life in their lake house with their daughter. And while that makes Tony's death all the more tragic, Pepper seemed to understand that her husband needed to do the right thing in hopes of bringing back the dusted denizens of the galaxy.

Why Green Lantern Corps Needs To Be A Priority At DC

In 2014, Warner Bros laid out its initial film slate for the DC Extended Universe, officially signaling that like Marvel, it was all-in on establishing a shared world filled with its most recognizable and more obscure plans. Numerous other DCEU movies have been announced since then, but of those original 10 movies, four have been released, two are coming out over the next year and four remain in some form of development. One of the in-development ones is Green Lantern Corps, but outside of revealing the title and that David Goyer and Justin Rhodes are working on the script, DC has been quiet about how this reboot is coming along. However, it's possible that this project is closer to happening than previously believed.

Last week, it was reported that Mission: Impossible - Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie is the newest director being eyed to helm Green Lantern Corps, and given his past collaborations with Tom Cruise, this has led to many online to wonder if the actor might be courted to play Hal Jordan. It remains to be seen if McQuarrie will actually direct Green Lantern Corps, but even if that hiring doesn't work out, Warner Bros and DC would be wise to make sure that the movie is prioritized rather than place it on the back burner, mainly for the following reasons.

It Opens Up DC's Cosmic UniverseSo far the only major ways the DCEU has delved into DC Comics' cosmic realm is by Man of Steel briefly visiting Krypton and Justice League having Steppenwolf and his Parademon army invade Earth (twice), but this is just the tip of the iceberg. DC has published plenty of stories over the decades that aren't set on Earth, and the Green Lantern Corps movie can serve as a great way to fully delve into these other intergalactic corners, just like Guardians of the Galaxy did for the MCU. The DC universe is divided into 3600 sectors, and in the modern era, at least two Green Lanterns are charged with protecting a sector. Earth is located in Sector 2814, and while Green Lantern Corps could easily follow in the previous Green Lantern movie's footsteps and keep the main action based on our world, it would be better if the human Lanterns instead ventured out to other worlds, visited different alien civilizations, etc. This then paves the way for other cosmic-focused DCEU movies to be released, such as one based on Jack Kirby's Fourth World mythology.

It Doesn't Need Close Ties To The Justice LeagueTo clarify, I'm not saying that the Green Lantern side of the DCEU shouldn't be connected to the Justice League at all. Should Justice League 2 happen, I would like it if John Stewart was added to the ranks. But as mentioned in the previous section, a Green Lantern is required to look after an entire sector, not just one world, and that's not counting those emergency situations when Lanterns are called to assist outside of their assigned sectors. So even though Green Lantern Corps' main characters will hail from Earth, and it would be nice if some ties were established between them and DC's other prominent heroes, it's not absolutely necessary. There's more than enough to keep the Emerald Knights busy elsewhere, and they're certainly capable enough to handle threats without calling in Superman, Wonder Woman and others in for backup. This movie will take place in a shared universe, but it could still be enjoyed as a standalone tale.

It's A Property That Needs Cinematic RedemptionThe 2011 Green Lantern movie was intended to launch a sequel, as evidenced by Sinestro donning the yellow ring of fear in the mid-credits scene, but after the movie bombed critically and commercially, those plans were scrapped. While the Green Lantern mythos has remained an important pillar of the DC universe, and those who've wielded the ring have made numerous appearances in animated TV shows and video games, the fact is that to the general public, the Green Lantern movie has been their only exposure to the character(s), and needless to say that for most, it wasn't a good introduction. This is a property that is in major need of cinematic redemption, and it's better to make that happen sooner rather than later. With Justice League having included a few Green Lanterns in the Steppenwolf battle that took place thousands of years ago, the foundation has been set up for Green Lantern Corps, and not only has CGI technology significantly since the first Green Lantern movie came out, but hopefully when the reboot comes out, it will be just enough time that people have gotten over the stink of the last movie, but are still interested enough to see what this new version has to offer.

Its Reported Premise Sounds AmazingAs mentioned earlier, Warner Bros and DC have revealed few details about Green Lantern Corps, but a few years ago, it was reported that the movie would see Hal Jordan and John Stewart working together in a "Lethal Weapon in space"-type adventure. This is just the kind of story we need from a Green Lantern reboot, as it's falls more in line with the characters' jobs in the comics: serving as the "beats cops" of their sector and keeping the peace on the worlds that reside in that area. Yes, many Green Lantern stories are set on Earth, but the 2011 Green Lantern movie opted to set most of its action on our planet, and look how that turned out. Green Lantern Corps would be wise to take a cue from Thor: Ragnarok: spend a little time on Earth, but then set the main action far away in other areas of the cosmos. More importantly, though, is that the Lethal Weapon approach can also help tonally distinguish Green Lantern Corps from its predecessor. With Hal Jordan as the seasoned Lantern and John Stewart as the new recruit, you can bet that they'll have an entertaining buddy cop dynamic.

It Can Set Up A Long-Lasting Film SeriesLegacy is an important theme in DC Comics history, as multiple individuals have often gone by the same superhero identity. However, Green Lantern is one of the few superheroes were multiple individuals are going by that moniker at the same time. Even ignoring the Golden Age Green Lantern (whose ring is powered by magic) and the thousands of alien Green Lanterns that are flying around the universe, Earth has had seven humans wear the emerald ring of willpower over the decades. Hal Jordan and John Stewart are expected to star in Green Lantern Corps, and you can easily have them lead several movies, but even if they exit at some point, the Green Lantern Corps film series doesn't have to end. From long-active Green Lanterns like Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner to newer recruits like Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz, there's no shortage of human Lanterns who could take over as leads, meaning that these movies could hypothetically go on for a long time, and each time new main characters are brought in, it serves as a soft relaunch.

Among this year's critically-acclaimed films that are receiving Oscar buzz is Yorgos Lanthimos' far-from-proper period piece, The Favourite. The film starring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone may have its leading ladies strapping into tight corsets, but their characters' language is quite unhinged, as frequent swings of "fucks" and "cunts" unapologetically comes from their mouths. But will the film's frequent use of swearing sway The Favourite's chances from being... the favorite? Olivia Colman recently weighed in:

Who gives a fuck? Though [cunt] really is a big no-no. It's sort of equal to the n-word in America. Here the n-word is way up there and cunt is sort of all right. But the people who vote are all in the industry and less puritanical and shocked by stuff.

As far as expletives go, "cunt" has been one that's not regularly spoken in film as much as "fuck" is spewed and whatnot. So it's possible that some Oscar voters might be put off by The Favourite for this reason. Olivia Colman, however, likely didn't star as Queen Anne in the film only to be recognized by the Academy, but because it was a role she wanted to tackle.

Olivia Colman does admit in her interview with The Guardian that she's dreamed of holding the golden trophy, but the whole concept of award season tends to make the actress feel sick. She doesn't want to count on it and then feel disappointed, so she's keeping herself in check and focusing on what's important: the movie itself. That's a wise choice.

The Favorite is set in the early 18th century and follows the relationship between Queen Anne and Lady Sarah, played by Weisz. When Sarah's cousin Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives to the castle, it starts a rivalry between the two over the Queen's affections and powers. Because Yorgos Lanthimos' film is such a rejection of the typically stuffy period piece, perhaps it was greatly intended for it to defy norms and put off people a bit.

Lanthimos' last film was 2015's The Lobster, but he's also directed some other eccentric movies such as The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth. As award season continues to unfold, The Favourite has shown quite a bit of promise, as it recently scored four Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture and for the main trio of actresses. The Favourite also led the Critics' Choice Award shortlist, with 14 nominations.

Olivia Colman is especially high on the list as a possible winner for Best Actress in this year's award season, though she is among A Star is Born's Lady Gaga, The Wife's Glenn Close, Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Emily Blunt for Mary Poppins Returns.

How Captain Marvel Will Be Handling The Heros Powers

There are many reasons why fans are anticipating the arrival of Captain Marvel into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one at the very top of the list is just the sheer power she brings to the table. It was back in late 2016 that studio president Kevin Feige called her, "by far the most powerful character we've ever introduced," and our hopes have been raised ever since. That said, there has been question regarding whether or not we will see the hero working at her highest levels in her upcoming solo movie, but according to producer Jonathan Schwartz, the answer is an emphatic yes:

By the end of this movie we'll have seen the full run of powers out of Carol. So that's flight, and strength, and photon blasts. I think part of what made us excited about the character was that she was such a powerful character in the comic books, and one of the most, if not the most, powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and seeing all that brought to bear is one of the big pleasures of the movie.

With pretty much all Marvel movies expected to launch multiple sequels, there is some logic in not showcasing everything a character can do in an origin story, but that apparently isn't a part of the thought process being applied to Captain Marvel. As explained by Jonathan Schwartz last year during a press day on the set of the then-in-production movie, fans should definitely not expect a "nerfed" version of the half-human/half-Kree in her big screen debut, and audiences everywhere will get the chance to see of what she's fully capable.

This is an interesting revelation about Captain Marvel, and one has to wonder if it's an element that ties into the special way that the movie is approaching the structure of the standard origin story. One of the standout aspects of the blockbuster is the fact that Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) will be featured utilizing honed superpowers at the very start of the movie, with exploration into her human past occupying more of the second act. The story is going to give her some room to grow and advance her abilities, but she'll be featured much further along on her hero path when the film starts than where most other characters are in their debuts.

In the comics, Carol Danvers started her superhero career as a strong costumed vigilante in the late 1970s, but it was in the 1980s that she really became something special. Trading the name Ms. Marvel for the moniker Binary, she gained the ability to draw cosmic energy from a white hole (the opposite of a black hole), and could possess the power of a star. During our interview with Jonathan Schwartz, he confirmed that the Captain Marvel movie will see her reach this peak.

As awesome as it may be to have an incredibly powerful protagonist, however, there is a potential drawback that forms in the stakes department. Namely, if audiences don't believe there is any chance that a hero could lose any battle, they will disengage and abandon interest. This definitely has a chance of being a problem for Captain Marvel, but based on Jonathan Schwartz's comments it shouldn't really affect the solo film. Going back to the fact that the upcoming movie will still feature development and growth of Carol Danvers' powers, the "too powerful problem" is really going to be more of an issue for other MCU projects down the line. Said Schwartz,

I wouldn't say she's that powerful for the entire movie, and a lot of the movie is kind of about her understanding her true power. So, it kind of becomes an issue for more the end of the movie, and more going forward than it does for this movie.

Of course, this just means that we will probably be having a very similar conversation in a few months when Captain Marvel joins the rest of the (surviving) Marvel Cinematic Universe characters in Avengers: Endgame.

We'll wait and see how all that goes, but for now Captain Marvel will be arriving in theaters on March 8th, sporting a cast that includes Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
