How You Can See Get Out For Free In Theaters
A year ago, Jordan Peele burst onto the scene as a director with his critically acclaimed social thriller Get Out. The film was ridiculously profitable and is up for four Oscars at next month's Academy Awards. Now, in recognition of Black History Month and the one year anniversary of its release, Jordan Peele and Universal Pictures are giving audiences a chance to see the thought-provoking film on the big screen either again or for the first time, completely for free. Get Out will be screening this President's Day, Monday February 19 at 7:00 p.m. at 55 AMC theaters nationwide.
This promotion works on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-ordering tickets isn't an option, so you'll have to get them from the box office the day of the showing. There is only one ticket per person and the free ticket is only good for the 7:00 p.m. showing on February 19. The tickets will be given out up to theater capacity, so if you want to attend, it'd be wise not to show up to the theater at 6:55 p.m. There are participating AMC theaters in many major markets, but to find out exactly if any theaters near you are doing the free Get Out screening, check out the Get Out one year later website.
Get Out is one of those movies that everyone should see, not just because of the powerful social message it conveys, but simply because of its craft as a piece of filmmaking. It is unlike most other horror or thriller movies you have seen, and originality is always exciting. Get Out gets under your skin and stays with you long after you see it. There is a reason that the movie is nominated for Best Picture and Jordan Peele is nominated as Best Director at the Oscars. What the first-time director was able to accomplish, and on such a minuscule budget, is remarkable. While Get Out is already available on home video and streaming, there is no better way to see any film than on the big screen, and it being free is a nice bonus.
For those who have already seen Get Out, this is the kind of film that really benefits from a second viewing. Now that you know where things are going, you can really pick up on the foreshadowing you missed the first time around, as well as all the classic horror references in this film. In addition to the free President's Day screenings, you can check out some of the amazing fan art inspired by the film at the Now You're In The Sunken Place website. But you probably shouldn't check that out until you've seen the film at least once, due to spoilers and such.
