Does Aquaman Really Include A Man Of Steel Easter Egg?

Warning: SPOILERS for Aquaman are ahead! Proceed with caution.

Rather than go out of its way to connect to other corners of the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman opted to take a standalone approach with its story. In fact, Mera's mention of Arthur Curry having helped defeat Steppenwolf was the only direct reference to Arthur Curry's participation in Justice League, but it turns out there might have been a more subtle reference to the DCEU past: seeing the oil rig explosion from Man of Steel.

We have Patrick Wilson's Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master, to thank for this supposed tie-in, as during the first half of Aquaman, after Arthur Curry is captured by Atlantean forces after meeting with Mera and Vulko (who managed to escape unseen), Orm explained to his chained half-brother why he wants to attack the surface world. It boils down to humanity having polluted the oceans for centuries, and to prove his point, Orm showed Arthur some holograms of the various ways have tainted Earth's waters. Included among the footage is an oil platform on fire, which looks quite similar to the one that Clark Kent rescued all those workers from early into Man of Steel, as you can watch below.

Assuming the oil rig explosion we briefly see in Aquaman is indeed the same one from Man of Steel, then not only is this a fun DCEU Easter egg, it also directly ties into Arthur Curry's own past. Last year, Jason Momoa confirmed the long-running theory that it was Aquaman who saved Clark Kent from the explosion and brought him back to shore was true, having learned as such from director Zack Snyder. So even though it would be another three years until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice gave us our first look of Jason Momoa's Aquaman, the character has been involved in the DCEU since it launched, even if that involvement may have thrown in retroactively.

Whether or not Orm knew that Arthur was near that flaming oil platform all those years ago, that footage was just one of several examples Orm show to convince Arthur of the evils of humanity and for him to stay out of Atlantean affairs. His attempts at persuasion were for naught, and by the time all was said and done in Aquaman, not only did Arthur prevent Orm from laying waste to humanity, he also rightfully claimed the Atlantean throne. And thus a new chapter in Atlantis' history begins, one that was ushered in by a half-human, half-Atlantean ruler who will try to bring peace between the underwater and surface worlds.

Aquaman is now playing in theaters, and be sure to read CinemaBlend's review of the movie. Stay tuned for continuing coverage about the movie and if/when Aquaman 2 will get the green light, but for now, you can find out what else the DCEU has on the way in our handy guide.

New evidence and some actual words from the mouth of the guy himself, it appears that we have to ask: Was There an Aquaman Easter Egg Man of Steel?

This Rotten Week: Predicting Ready Player One, Gods Not Dead 3 And Acrimony Reviews

We have already seen a number of major blockbusters released in 2018, but still it's special whenever we are getting a new Spielberg blockbuster. And not only that, but we have two other features on the docket. This week's movies take us to the world of virtual reality, a burned down church, and a woman looking for revenge on her husband. Let's take a look at Ready Player One, God's Not Dead: A Light in the Darkness, and Acrimony.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

Imagine the ultimate treasure hunt: an escape into virtual reality to find life-altering fame and fortune just by knowing a lot of crap about 80's pop culture. That's what you get in Ready Player One, the film adaptation of Ernest Cline's 2011 novel of the same name. And the book is a lot of things. It's a look ahead to a frightening future "reality." It's a "chosen one" tale about an underprivileged kid who games the system out of sheer hard work and smarts. And it's an homage to the 80's and all its cheesy music, television, movies and more. Steven Spielberg's adaptation looks fantastic, in many ways even bigger than the words on the page.

Critics seem to feel the same way about it following its early world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. It is currently sitting at 81% with more than fifty reviews counted. Ready Player One is being praised for its visuals, lighthearted nature, frenetic energy and ability to rework the source material into a big budget hit. I don't expect it to move much at all as we get closer to the theatrical release.

He's back! Every year it's fun to take a trip down the Tyler Perry Tomatometer roll and do a quick summary of how poorly this guy's movies are reviewed. And now that Acrimony is on the way, now is the perfect time to do it again. Let's take a quick glance of the last ten:

Boo! A Madea Halloween (23%) Boo2! A Madea Halloween (6%) The Single Mom's Club (19%) A Madea Christmas (20%) Temptation (15%) Witness Protection (20%) Good Deeds (30%) For Colored Girls (32%) Why Did I Get Married Too? (27%) Madea Goes to Jail (28%)

It really doesn't get any better if we keep going back, but suffice to say Perry has directed 15 movies in the last decade-plus, and the average Tomatometer score is a whopping 25%. It's hard to imagine this latest puts him on the winning track. It looks like your typical romantic thriller schlock with a woman coming to grips with the fact that her husband is a piece of cheating garbage. Most of these movies wind up being echoes of each other, and I imagine Acrimony mirrors the critical response to most of his work.

In case you were under the impression that God was dead, this film series is here to say otherwise. They tried the first time with God's Not Dead (14%). Then they followed it up with the (unbelievably) even worse-reviewed, God's Not Dead 2 (9%). Now they're really throwing caution to the wind with a third in the series: God's Not Dead: A Light In Darkness. Will it somehow find a way to finish with an even lower Tomatometer score? We are about to find out.

This is the story of a church getting burned down because people don't want the church around and the pastor who wants to save the church to prove the title of the film is true. Like the previous chapters, it looks really bad. Christian-based wide releases are coming at us hot and heavy in the short term (seems like there's one every week), and almost all of them score poorly with critics. This one will too.

We didn't have a great showing last time around. And while I'd like to think I had the tone of the reviews generally correct, I only had two of the five predictions fall within an acceptable range.

Steven Soderbergh's Unsane (Predicted: 70% Actual: 78%) was one of the wins. It stuck in line with the early reviews, and makes for another critical win for the acclaimed director, proving no genre can hold the guy. Critics appreciated the jumps and jolts as well as the commentary about the role of "truth" in our current social climate - not to mention the iPhone-born cinematography.

Pacific Rim Uprising (Predicted: 52% Actual: 46%) was the other prediction that fell within range, scoring considerably lower than the first in the series. This one looked rather messy from the trailer, and it was tough to imagine it building all that much on its predecessor. Comparison's the Transformers movies weren't complimentary, and a majority of critics saw it as silly and over-the-top.

Then we get to the losses. Paul, The Apostle of Christ (Predicted: 55% Actual: 35%) was a miss, and I probably should have seen this coming. As with many Christian-based movies, few critics even made it to the theaters. It ended with only 23 total reviews, incredibly low for a widely-released movie. Most felt that the performances were fine enough, with the story driving down the entire production.

Sherlock Gnomes (Predicted: 40% Actual: 21%) was just a flat-out mistake. I was surprised when I looked back and saw 40% as the prediction considering how bad I thought the trailer looked and the other mistakes coming from the studio. But alas, it goes into the record books as a loss and I'm left wondering what I was thinking with the initial guess.

And finally, I would love to consider Midnight Sun (Predicted: 39% Actual: 21%) a win considering how silly I thought the premise looked and how I basically just made fun of the plot. But I suspected the vanilla tone of the movie would keep it out of the critical basement. I was wrong there and this one ends up being pretty damn bad.

Next time around we've got Blockers, Chappaquiddick, The Miracle Season and A Quiet Place. It's gonna be a Rotten Week!

The Hocus Pocus Cast Reunited And Are All Grown Up

The Hocus Pocus Cast Reunited And Are All Grown Up

It's Halloween season, which for many people means pulling out the candy corn and re-watching the beloved classic, Hocus Pocus. The Sanderson sisters certainly put a spell on '90s kids with the Disney family film, and this time of year is prime season for its cult-like popularity to raise from the dead once again. Since this year marks the 25th anniversary of Hocus Pocus, the once child actors who starred in the film alongside Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy had a reunion at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to celebrate. Take a look at some of these familiar faces, a quarter of a century later:

Your eyes don't deceive you, that's Jay and Ice from Hocus Pocus back in those pesky cages! The Instagram post shows Larry Bagby, who played Ice, and Tobias Jelinek, who played Jay (he's in the middle), posing with Vanessa Hudgens oddly enough. Hudgens wasn't in Hocus Pocus, but she did star in director Kenny Ortega's other big hit, High School Musical. It looks like the past co-stars are having a tubular time back together and ready to cause as much trouble as they did as bullies in the classic. Here's another blast from the past:

Whoa, Allison is all grown up! While she was a pretty teenaged girl who caught the eye of new kid, Max Dennison in Hocus Pocus, she's now a busy mother who got all glammed up for the 25th anniversary. It's a little difficult to recognized Vinessa Shaw, who posted the photo as Allison right away, but she's still quite the knock-out!

Looks like Dani was also in the house! The iconic sassy little witch in Hocus Pocus, played by Thora Birch, still is easily recognized as her unforgettable role, via her Instagram. Eat your heart out and check out Dani with both Allison and Max:

Thora Birch also posted this gem on Instagram as well. 25 years later, if you saw these three on the street, it would take a bit of magic to realize right off the bat that these are the stars of Hocus Pocus. While some of them still have roles in movies and television shows still today, actors such as Omri Katz, who played Max, have retired from performing since their childhood acting days.

In this last picture by Thora Birch, the three actors pose with their director Kenny Ortega, who is all dressed up in a tux for the momentous occasion. The director has defined many '90s kids childhoods since Hocus Pocus with Disney releases such as High School Musical and The Cheetah Girls 2. The stars of the Halloween classic got back together to revisit the film 25 years later.

The Hocus Pocus party will air on Freeform on October 20 at 8:15 p.m. PST and the film will air on the channel over 20 times this month.

Will Smith Shares Photo From First Day Working On Bad Boys 3

They say don't believe it until you see it, and that phrase holds especially true when it comes to long-awaited films like The Crow reboot and Bill & Ted 3 that have seemed so close to happening, only to not. One similarly long-awaited film is Bad Boys 3, and if you need visual confirmation that this film is really happening, look no further than Will Smith, who has shared a photo from the first day of work on the film.

So it's not a trailer or a production still, but it is visual evidence that sixteen years after Bad Boys 2, the third film in this franchise is actually happening. The film is still in pre-production but this picture of copies of the script proves that this isn't just a fan hope or film in some nascent stage of development, but something that is actually moving forward and has a script to work with.

It's exciting for fans of the franchise eager to see more of the action-packed and humorous adventures of Will Smith's Mike Lowery and Marin Lawrence's Marcus Burnett. In his Instagram post, Will Smith promises to keep fans posted on the third film in the franchise. Bad Boys 3 will go by the moniker Bad Boys For Lif3, which I guess means the also announced fourth film will be called Bad Boys 4 Ever, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The previous two films in the action-comedy franchise were directed by Michael Bay, but things will be a little different this time around with directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah taking over behind the camera. The script for Bad Boys For Lif3, which you see above, is the work of Chris Bremner, Peter Craig and former director Joe Carnahan.

According to Production Weekly, Bad Boys For Lif3 will follow the Miami PD's elite AMMO team, which has been tasked with bringing down a drug cartel led by Jacob Scipio's Armando Armas. This kingpin is out to kill Will Smith's Mike Lowery. Complicating matters further is the fact that the head of the AMMO unit is Rite, Mike's former girlfriend, played by Paoloa Nuez.

What the description does not say, but is all but guaranteed is that Bad Boys For Lif3 will also be full of explosions, car chases, gun fights, witty one-liners and hilarious banter between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's detectives.

Also attached to the film are Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton and Joe Pantoliano, who will reprise his role as Captain Howard from the first two films.

Bad Boys For Lif3 doesn't come out until January 17, 2020, but there is a full year of great films to hold you over in the meantime. Check them out in our 2019 release schedule.
