Is The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer Hinting At A Plot From The Previous Movie?
No matter how many times dinosaurs cause chaos, humanity just can't seem to understand that it's best not to mess with these prehistoric creatures in the Jurassic Park universe, and it doesn't look like that lesson will finally be learned in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom later this year. Last December, it was revealed that the fifth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise will follow Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and and their new allies attempting to evacuate as many dinosaurs off Isla Nublar as possible before a volcano erupts and destroys the whole island. However, in the Super Bowl TV spot that aired Sunday, we learned that yet another genetically engineered dinosaur will be running rampant, but it might not end there. Looking at the below screenshot, it appears that now weaponized dinosaurs are being auctioned off for military use, something that was touched upon in 2015's Jurassic World.
Toby Jones' Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom character hasn't been identified yet, but as you can see above, he appears to be the auctioneer at the sale for some prized dinosaurs, one which has parties from all around the globe participating, judging by the currencies listed on that screen. Admittedly, it's not explicitly stated that the dinosaurs being auctioned are meant for militaristic application, but looking at those suits in the crowd, you can reasonably assume that they're not interested in putting these creatures in a new wildlife reserve.
Using dinosaurs as weapons, be it for a country's army or private defense, is something that was briefly explored in Jurassic World through Vincent D'Onofrio's character, Vic Hoskins. To Vic, dinosaurs were the ultimate weapons of war, and if he'd had his way, they would be sent out into the battlefield rather than entertain vacationers on Isla Nublar. Hoskins was responsible for the creation of the Indominus Rex, and when it broke free, he tried to use the velociraptors from the IBRIS Project take down the destructive dinosaur. Alas, Vic's plan failed, and before he was later killed by one of those raptors, he boasted about how useful dinosaurs would be as weapons.
Cut to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where soon the surviving dinosaurs from Isla Nulbar will be without a home, allowing certain individuals to step in, seize some of these creatures for themselves and make a profit off of them. Fallen Kingdom producer (and Jurassic World director) Colin Trevorrow previously said that the sequel would use the dinosaurs as a parable for the treatment of animals today, including "the use the military has made of them." Rafe Spall's character, Eli Mills, can also be heard in the Super Bowl spot saying, "Jurassic World, the island, all of that is in the past. I want to show you the future." If that doesn't scream "Use dinosaurs to attack the enemy," I don't know what does.
Of course, with another genetically-enhanced dinosaur running free, no doubt whatever these sinister individuals have planned for selling dinosaurs as weapons will go to hell. That being said, since Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will spend a good chunk of time on the Isla Nublar evacuation, perhaps this militaristic subplot will only be partially explored, allowing for Jurassic World 3 to fully delve into this story as a thrilling conclusion to the trilogy
