Joseph Gordon-Levitt Says To Stop Blaming Zooey Deschanel In 500 Days Of Summer

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Says To Stop Blaming Zooey Deschanel In 500 Days Of Summer

There are few film genres as tried and true as the good old fashioned romantic comedy. While there have been endless sappy and quirky rom-coms, certain movies transcend the genre by being self-aware and having challenging plot points. One of the most recent classics is 500 Days of Summer, starring Zooey Deschanel as the title character, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as aspiring architect Tom Hansen. 500 Days of Summer is stylish and unique, but its ending has drawn some ire from cinephiles over the years. Since the movie is primarily told from Tom's perspective, there have been quite a few audience members who have takem umbrage with Summer's ability to marry someone other than Tom. After seeing a hater on Twitter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt defended both the movie and Deschanel's character, saying:

Watch it again. It's mostly Tom's fault. He's projecting. He's not listening. He's selfish. Luckily he grows by the end.

Well, there you go. 500 Days of Summer focuses on two equally flawed characters, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is not going to let Tom Hansen get off the hook. That seems to be the resolve at the film's end, but clearly it didn't register with everyone.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's tweet shows how much the actor has truly thought about his character's intentions in 500 Days of Summer, and how the movie ultimately concludes. The layers of Summer and Tom's relationship are peeled back, and it soon becomes clear they're just trying their best. But being human, their best isn't necessarily correct or healthy.

When Tom first meets Summer at the elevator at work, he instantly falls in love. Because he's a romantic with a penchant for The Smiths, he thinks Zooey Deschanel's character must be his one true love. Conversely, Summer tells him over and over again that she's not looking to be in a committed relationship with him, but that they're simply enjoying each other's companionship. But Tom is steadfast in his affections, and ultimately ends up hurt when Summer follows through and even gets married to another man.

Luckily, both of the characters ultimately look inward and take responsibility for their missteps. Just like so many other relationships, theirs fell apart because of the various circumstances and personalities involved. And if both Tom and Joseph Gordon-Levitt himself can make peace with Summer's decision, then so should moviegoers. Especially since 500 Days of Summer hit theaters way back in 2009.

You can watch Tom and Summer have some closure below.

Now don't you wish everyone got to have such a constructive dialogue at the end of their relationships? Alas, that's just not most people's reality. Neither is the spontaneous musical number that Tom had after he and Summer had sex for the first time.

You can purchase your own copy of 500 Days of Summer now. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Deadpool's Rob Liefeld Tried To Get Russell Crowe To Play Cable, It Did Not Go Well

Deadpool's Rob Liefeld Tried To Get Russell Crowe To Play Cable, It Did Not Go Well

When the Deadpool sequel was looking for a Cable a lot of names were brought up. One of those names was Russell Crowe, but the overture suggesting he look at the part did not go well. Rob Liefeld recently spoke about the time he tweeted at Russell Crowe suggesting he read for the part. While the Twitter conversation had issues of its own, it turns out Liefeld got an earful from his own manager as well as some higher-ups at Fox for the move, as he'd accidentally insulted Russell Crowe. According to Liefeld...

One night before I went to bed, I didn't know Russell Crowe was on Twitter, and I stupidly tweeted to Russell Crowe -- not ever thinking he'd answer me -- and I go 'Hey Russell, you should read for Cable!' That didn't turn out very well, I got yelled at a lot, because I woke up, because he's in Australia, to Russell Crowe saying 'Read for it?' And my manager said 'Yeah, Russell Crowe doesn't read for parts. Rob, you kind of insulted him. I'm like 'I'm sorry. They just haven't picked Cable yet so I'm just putting it out there.' And then my phone rings, so some Fox people may or may not have yelled at me for an hour.

The first part of this story we had seen because we wrote about the tweets that went back and forth between Rob Liefeld and Russell Crowe back in February of 2017. We saw Liefeld apologize for his language at the time, realizing that suggesting Russell Crowe audition for a role was potentially insulting, but we hadn't heard about the rest of the story, which Liefeld revealed at the Amazing Comic-Con in Las Vegas (via Collider), which included Fox executives calling Liefeld to ask him exactly what in the blue hell he thought he was doing. This is the downside of social media being such a public and instantaneous method of communication.

Clearly, this was just a bad choice of phrase from a guy who, while he's been much more involved in Hollywood in recent years, isn't exactly a high powered big shot. If Rob Liefeld had suggested that Russell Crowe "meet with Fox" about playing Cable, he would essentially have been saying the same thing he tried to say before, but without using wording that had the potential to upset a guy who is known for having something of a short temper.

We'll never know if there was any real potential for Russell Crowe to play Cable. What we do know at this point is that it doesn't really matter because Josh Brolin was cast in the role and he knocked it out of the park. The right guy was clearly found for the part. Brolin probably didn't have to read for it either.

The Hardest Scene To Shoot In Solo: A Star Wars Story

The Hardest Scene To Shoot In Solo: A Star Wars Story

The trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story have shown all sorts of interesting and exciting sequences the film will have in store for us, but one of them was significantly more difficult for one actor than the rest. In a recent Twitter Q & A, actress Thandie Newton, who plays the role of Val in the new film, revealed that for her, the train sequence, that we've seen some of in the advertising, required a lot of work from her over the course of several weeks in order to get right. According to Newton...

It seems like it's one scene, it's the train sequence which, I'm not giving anything away by saying that, and the stuff that Val had to do in that sequence was shot over a number of weeks and I had so much stunt work to do to train for it and it looks amazing, but, wow, it was hard work.

We've seen some of the sequence that Thandie Newton mentions on Twitter in the trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story. We know that it is part of "the job" that Woody Harrelson is looking to put together a team for, though whether or not the train is the end goal, or a step in a larger plot, is not clear. It does look to potentially be the major action setpiece of the movie, which would explain why shooting it took several weeks to complete. Also, with train robberies being a classic part of many heist films, it makes some thematic sense for Star Wars to put its own particular spin on the trope. Rather than simply being a train, the vehicle is suspended above the ground and is flying past snowy mountains.

While certainly a lot of what we're seeing is CGI, that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of real stuntwork involved for the actors. From what we've seen of Val in the lead up to Solo, she's been working with Woody Harrelson's Beckett for some time, so she's supposed to be an accomplished criminal. This means that her stunt work doesn't simply need to be "good enough," it needs to look like she's been doing it for a long time and is an expert at breaking into moving trains.

While most of us have to wait to see the finished product, the world premiere of Solo: A Star Wars Story took place last week and the initial impressions of the movie are favorable. While not everybody loved it, it seems that most at least enjoyed it, which is good news for the film that went through more than its share of turmoil behind the scenes. The rest of us will get to see Val in all her glory starting May 25.

Crimes Of Grindelwalds Nagini Has All The Same Questions As You

Crimes Of Grindelwalds Nagini Has All The Same Questions As You

This is an exciting (but also confusing) time to be Claudia Kim, who landed the key role of Nagini in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Harry Potter fans are very familiar with Lord Voldemort's Horcrux snake -- or at least we thought we were. Now that we're meeting Nagini as a young woman prior to her snake turn, however, we have questions that need answering in the next movies. Turns out, Kim has the same questions, such as these.

Does she speak Parseltongue? Does she discover that ability, or ...? How does she meet Tom Riddle? All of the same things that the fans are wondering.

Claudia Kim posed these questions to J.K. Rowling's official Pottermore site on the red carpet of the film's Paris premiere. It's clear she's eager to delve into Nagini's backstory and connect the dots between the character we meet in the second Fantastic Beasts movie and the one we know later in the Harry Potter books and films.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for this movie, and she's writing all five planned Fantastic Beasts films. She'd only recently revealed that Nagini was actually a "Maledictus," a carrier of a blood curse leaving the person (always a woman) destined to permanently turn into a beast.

Previews for Crimes of Grindelwald show Nagini's closeness to Ezra Miller's Credence Barebone, so we know they have a connection. But this film is set in 1927, and the final Harry Potter story already revealed that Neville Longbottom kills Nagini (and Moldy Voldy's Horcrux inside her) during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998.

So there's a lot of story to cover in those years. As Claudia Kim noted, she at some point must meet Tom Riddle Jr., who later becomes the self-styled Lord Voldemort. Riddle's official Pottermore birthday is December 31, 1926. So he's clearly a lot younger than our Nagini, whose life as a snake is apparently very long.

Does she learn Parseltongue immediately when she turns into a snake? Is that how she bonds with Tom Riddle, who told Albus Dumbledore that snakes find him and talk to him? We hope Claudia Kim and viewers get answers in any of the next several films.

That said, J.K. Rowling had previously told Variety her five-film series would span 19 years -- from the 1926 of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to, presumably, the legendary 1945 duel between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. So Tom Riddle would be about 19 at the end of this story, and it's not clear yet if he will have a role in the final film. But Nagini is here now, so we'll at least start following her story.

J.K. Rowling has already taken heat from some fans for adding this new Nagini twist. She's also facing questions for another potential canon issue with Professor McGonagall. Plenty of fans and critics have already seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but they are sworn to protect the secrets until we all get to play.

Fantastic Beasts 2 will arrive with its new twists and questions on November 16, and Fantastic Beasts 3 is expected to be released in theaters in 2020.

The website's critical consensus reads, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has glimmers of the magic familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the story's spell isn't as strong as earlier installments." On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 52 out of 100, based on 48 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

The end of Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald left us with many questions. In this video I speculate on what is next for Nagini and when she will meet Tom Riddle/Voldemort! Thanks for

Turns Out Charlize Theron Was Actually Approached To Play Wonder Womans Mom

Back before Charlize Theron was a well-known action heroine and Patty Jenkins broke the glass ceiling when she directed Wonder Woman, the pair worked together for the 2003 crime drama Monster-- and it won the actress an Oscar. So naturally, when Jenkins was tasked with casting the Amazons in the DC epic she took the opportunity to try to work with her again. At first, however she didnt understand right away that she wasnt being asked to play the iconic hero herself. Check out what Theron said:

This is a great example of how Hollywood slaps you in the face when you start aging. So somebody had said to me Theres action on this thing Wonder Woman, we just want to make you aware of it. And I was like Im just not familiar with it, what does Wonder Woman do? And this person said No, its for Wonder Womans mom. Its fine, its the defining moment where I crossed over. And I wasnt fully aware of it.

Well this is awkward. While Charlize Theron was on recently on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen promoting her romantic comedy Long Shot, she was asked about a previous report that she turned down a role on the DCEU origin story. The actress revealed that she assumed shed been asked to play the lead and why wouldnt she? Theron has pulled off playing a badass action star countless times in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde.

Theron didnt turn down the role of Hippolyta because she was offended of the casting offer. Heres what she said years ago of the Wonder Woman role that could have been:

We're friends. I think the world of her. We have a mutual respect for each other. She did come to me, and at the time I was either working on something or I don't know. There was a reason I couldn't do it.

The actress has been consistently swamped with film projects for years so this isnt an answer thats difficult to wrap our heads around, though it would have been a treat to see her take on the role of Dianas mother and the Queen of the Amazons. When the rumors surfaced, many imagined she was asked about Robin Wrights role of General Antiope. Theron could certainly have pulled off Hippolyta as well, though it now belongs to Connie Nielson. Take a look:

Maybe theres still time for Charlize Theron to join the franchise? Patty Jenkins does have plans to complete Diana Princes story arc with a third Wonder Woman movie at some point. The actress will have a chance to play a comic book character in an upcoming Netflix adaptation of Image Comics The Old Guard, which was penned by Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka. It's perhaps a better place for the actress since she may not be ready to move over to playing moms just yet and she certainly shouldn't have to be.
