It Looks Like Sylvester Stallone Is Teasing The New Rambo Movie
John Rambo is returning to the big screen in a major way, with Rambo 5 currently in development and approaching principal photography. On that note, Stallone has begun to tease audiences with the return of his badass Vietnam veteran, posting a new photo to his Instagram hinting at the character's eventual return. Badass, isn't it? John Rambo was never the type of hero to wear a lot of armor into battle, and that art for Rambo 5 seems to show that John will once again run into combat with little more than the shirt on his back, the bandana around his head, and the knife in his hands. Also worth noting is the word "savage" in that caption of that social media post, which seemingly hints at a brutal movie full of blood and gore.
Rambo 5 will take the action away from southeast Asia to place John Rambo south of the border. In this installment, Rambo will take on a Mexican cartel, which seems like a natural jumping off point when we consider the fact that the previous Rambo movie ended with him returning to the Rambo homestead in Arizona. Also, with franchises like Sicario continuing to showcase the brutality of the drug war, there has arguably never been a better time to send Rambo to that part of the world.
Rambo 5 stands out as one of several films that mark the Sylvester Stallone resurgence that we have seen over the course of the last decade. The actor has come a long way since it was expected that The Expendables would go straight to video, with movies like Creed defining his comeback in a major way. From there, the actor has even gone on to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the production of Rambo 5 shows that he definitely hasn't exhibited any signs of giving up his most beloved characters just yet.
Though the Rocky franchise is still arguably Sylvester Stallone's most important property, Rambo is still a major facet of his career. The series began in the early 1980s with First Blood, and he has returned to the character several times (with each film more brutal than the last) in the years since that debut. The most recent entry in the Rambo franchise came in 2008 with the Burma-set Rambo, and this art makes it clear that a savage has been waiting to return to the big screen for the better part of the last decade.
Last time we heard about Rambo 5, it was said that the sequel was aiming to begin production in September and hit a Fall 2019 release date.
