Gal Gadot Shares First Photo Of Diana In Costume For Wonder Woman 1984

The DC Extended Universe is an interesting place. While containing some of comic books' most beloved heroes, the still infant shared universe hasn't had the easiest road. Most of the DCEU's blockbusters have been critically panned, with the exception being Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. Diana Prince's solo film is the the shining light of what DC is capable of, so anticipation and excitement for its upcoming sequel has been at a fever pitch for the past year. Wonder Woman 1984 will bring the character back for yet another capsule story, and now we've gotten the first look at Diana Prince in costume. Check it out.

Wonder Woman is back, and she's looking especially shiny and effervescent. While Wonder Woman 1984 will no doubt show a new side of Diana Prince, the signature Wonder Woman costume is something we can depend. That, and somehow Steve Trevor will pop up.

Gal Gadot's recent Twitter photo is enough to get any self respecting comic book fan excited. Wonder Woman is part of DC's trinity of all-star characters, and is only now finally making her silver screen debut. While this may have been a risk that studios were originally wary of, Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins proved the Amazonian warrior had enough complexity and hope to carry a franchise.

This first image of Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman 1984 is far more colorful then when the character debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Zack Snyder notoriously loves almost colorless hues in his films, so Wonder Woman's suit in the final battle against Doomsday was more muted than the vibrant one she's wearing in her own solo films. While the DCEU can't exactly change up the character's costume in each film, both Patty Jenkins and Zack Synder have had very different interpretations of the same suit.

Wonder Woman 1984 is largely a mystery, although the first images are coming from Patty Jenkins' set. The sequel will reportedly focus on the title character's conflict with the Russian Soviets during the Cold War. Joining the cast as its main antagonist is Kristin Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva / Cheetah. Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman's most iconic villains, so fans are eager to see her make a live-action debut.

Curiously rounding out the cast is Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. This is no doubt a shock to moviegoers, as Steve almost definitely died during the events of the first Wonder Woman film. But Patty Jenkins recently shared an image of Diana and Steve in Wonder Woman 1984, although the characters don't seem to have aged. While this is normal for Diana, if Steve were alive he should be decades older than we saw him. As such, smart money says some dream sequences or another clever macguffin will allow the character to return to the DCEU.
