The Greatest Showman was a surprise box office hit when it competed against Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle late last year. However, since we know the movie was a success in theaters and even has a potential Broadway production on the way, it makes sense that The Greatest Showman would also be doing well now that it is available to families at home, and in the U.K. the movie has especially been crushing, winning home entertainment sales for multiple weeks.
For the last two weeks, The Greatest Showman has dominated the U.K. home entertainment charts, becoming the #1 release for the week of May 20-26 and looking to repeat again this week, between May 27 and June 2. Just being the number one release in the U.K. isn't quite as big of a deal as the actual numbers, as the Official Charts indicate the movie sold 497,000 copies of the movie in just a week. That's a lot of copies of The Greatest Showman out there. The flick is also, in fact, the second best-selling home release in the U.K. so far this year.
Here in the States, The Greatest Showman hit Blu-ray and DVD on April 10, and was also the #1 set here during the week of its release, according to the NPD VideoScan. Part of the reason the release has been so special has been that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment smartly included a sing-a-long version of the movie with the set. So you can plonk your kids in front of the TV or sing with the movie yourself at the top of your lungs. The extra sing-a-long component comes after sing-a-long screenings of the movie also did well.

The Greatest Showman was a surprise box office hit early this year. The movie was made on an $84 million budget, but went on to make more than $432.5 million worldwide at the box office. Domestically, it earned almost $174 million, and what was possibly most remarkable about that achievement was that the movie didn't have a great opening weekend. Word of mouth propelled it forward, and kept the momentum up for weeks and weeks after the movie's initial release. The Greatest Showman clearly proved popular in the U.K., as well. While we won't be getting a sequel to the P.T. Barnum story, keep your eyes peeled for more news about the potential Broadway production in the coming months.
