Deadpool 2 Director David Leitch May Remake One Of Bruce Lees Most Famous Films
Few action icons have become more beloved than Bruce Lee. The late martial artist has become an absolute legend of the genre, with many of his films carving out reputations as all-time classics. Now it looks like a modern master of the action world is getting in on the Bruce Lee action, as Deadpool 2 director David Leitch might actually get behind the camera for a remake of Enter the Dragon.
This report comes courtesy of Deadline, noting that David Leitch is currently in talks to sign on for a remake of Enter the Dragon. The news comes on the heels of the 45th anniversary of Bruce Lee's death in 1973 (he died of cerebral edema before Enter the Dragon actually opened), and if Leitch does officially sign on for the remake, then the next course of action will be to find a writer who can update the story.
Of course, the prospect of David Leitch signing on for a remake of Enter the Dragon also leaves us wondering what classic sequences he will keep from the original. There are a number of legendary moments that have since helped Enter the Dragon to become iconic, including the mirror sequence that John Wick: Chapter 2 even paid homage to last year. With so many legendary moments, we're left wonder how David Leitch will put his own stamp on that world.
This is not the first time that Hollywood has attempted to return to the Enter the Dragon well for a remake. In addition to this latest iteration with David Leitch in the director chair, the property has also seen filmmakers like Inside Man director Spike Lee and Rush Hour franchise helmer Brett Ratner attempt to get their own versions off of the ground. That said, of all the incarnations that have been toyed with over the years, Leitch arguably feels like one of the best fits.
David Leitch's move to a remake of Enter the Dragon only adds to the mounting evidence that he's one of the most sought-after action filmmakers in Hollywood. Gaining his biggest notoriety for his work on John Wick, the filmmaker has since gone on to work on films like Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, and he's currently in the process of developing the Hobbs and Shaw Fast and Furious spinoff for Universal. He has clearly found a niche in the realm of intense action properties and putting him behind the camera for a remake of one of the most beloved action films of all time could end up feeling like a perfect match.
