Fans React To The Joker Getting A Standalone DC Movie

The DCEU continues to evolve with the numerous creative shifts that have taken place over at Warner Bros. With that in mind, the latest development also seems to be one of the most polarizing, as a Joker movie focusing on Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime was revealed yesterday. The announcement generated a lot of responses online, including some hilarious commentary about how this is a suitably Joker thing to see. Check out one such remark, below.

So, as you can see from that post, not everyone is immediately onboard with the idea of Suicide Squad spinoff focusing on Jared Leto's Joker. The character proved divisive among fans when he debuted in 2016, and this move to get a film based on him made almost feels like something he would do just to troll us.

That response to the Joker movie is not the only response to surface online. Not by a long shot. In fact, following the announcement, The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez took to social media to remark on the somewhat odd fact that two Joker movies have been announced, but Man of Steel 2 still hasn't been able to gain traction.

Those previous two responses to this new Joker solo movie were mostly humorous, but some fans seem legitimately angry about the idea of a Jared Leto Joker movie going into development. You can check out one such response highlighting the need for mystery in the character's stories, below.

Then there's just the matter of whether or not audiences actually want another Joker movie to enter development. As Batman expert Glen Weldon explained in his own tweet, it doesn't seem like everyone is going to care about that film.

Nevertheless, there have been some positive responses to this idea as well. In fact, one fan took to social media to remark on the fact that Warner Bros. arguably owes this movie to Jared Leto after cutting so many of his sequences in the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad. Moreover, they also hope that this means the Todd Phillips Joker movie won't happen anymore.

Finally, we come to one of the most positive responses of the bunch. Noting the promotion of Walter Hamada to head of DC film production, this poster said that the move to put a Jared Leto Joker movie into development represents a step in the right direction, and that this is a DCEU film worth being excited about.
